IMPORTANT NEW E.U. DIRECTIVE (2002/95/EC):– RoHS
RoHS stands for Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
The EU has introduced strict new laws on the importing of all electrical and electronic equipment. These regulations control the type of materials used to make components when manufacturing these products. The laws have been put in place to help safe guard our environment from the harmful effects of specific materials such as lead and cadmium.
Manufacturers will have to provide independent certification that their products meet the directive. This certification forms part of Direct Marketing’s existing Quality Control policy. The onus is on the manufacturer and importer to implement RoHS. Our customers do not need to do anything, however if they need to see certification we would be happy to provide it.
Unfortunately the use of alternative materials will increase prices of all electrical products. We are seeing price increases of between 5-15% depending on the type of product and the amount of regulated material in it. These increases are across the board and will affect all electrical manufacturers and importers into Europe.
